There are many different ways you can express art. One form of art I would like to talk about is fiber art. Within fiber art itself there are many different styles. One of the fiber art styles I’m going to focus on today is fiber art in crochet. Crochet has been one of my most recent hobbies that I started during quarantine, and I realized how fun and how there are unlimited things you can make by crocheting. One of the reasons why I started crochet is because I didn’t like how I was wasting my time by doing nothing. I’m not too sure what triggered me to start crochet, but I’m glad that I did and how crochet is part of my life and my hobbies. My very first crochet project that I worked on was crocheting a cup pad. I made it into two different colors, one pinkish red and one light blue. They were definitely not my best thing I ever crocheted but I felt very satisfied when I finished making them even if the results weren’t the one I thought it would be.

미술에는 여러가지 용도가 있고 그들 만에 스타일들이 다 다르게 있습니다. 하나에 미술을 소개 하자면 코바늘 뜨개질을 소개 하려고 합니다. 코바늘 뜨개질은 섬유 미술에 속하며 그냥 뜨개질보다 조금 최신인 뜨개질 입니다. 오늘은 코바늘 뜨개질에 기초와 왜 제가 이걸 취미로 추천해 들이고 싶은건지에 대해 설명해 들이겠습니다. 전 코바늘 뜨개질을 코로나가 한참 많을때 시작 했는데 사실 왜 이때 시작했는지는 저도 잘은 모르겠습니다. 하지만 전 코바늘 뜨개질을 시작해서 참 다행이라고 생각합니다. 이걸 통해 시간을 아깝게 보내지 안았고 또한 저에 새로운 작은 재능을 찾은것 같아서 또한 보람을 느꼈습니다. 제가 제일 처음 만든건 컵 받침대 입니다. 사실 처음 코바늘 뜨개질을 시작한지라 잘은 못 만들었지만 그래도 전 만드는 동안 보람을 느꼈고, 그런 제 자신이 조금이라도 자랑스러웠습니다.

It took me a good chunk of time to really understand the basics of crochet and I was surprised to find how different sizes of crochet hooks can make the result look so much different even if you make the same thing. The thickness of the hook and the types of yarn you use are the key things that create the appearance of the product. And depending on the project you are working on for crochet, it’s important to know exactly what types of hook and yarn to use before you start on your project. There are couple things that can be a little bit difficult for people that first start crocheting. Crocheting requires a lot of patients and focus even if you might be making a simple thing as something like a cup pad. Crocheting is also tricky when you are first learning about how to not miss any steps on pattern you are working on. Even though it’s not the easiest thing you might be working on, they are very satisfying and relaxing projects you can work on as your hobby.

제가 처음 코바늘 뜨개질을 시작했을땐 꽤 오랜시간을 거처 기초를 배웠습니다. 코바늘 뜨개질에서 중요한 요점들은 코바늘 사이즈와 실 스타일 그리고 실에 사이즈가 아주 중요합니다. 너무 굵은 실을 얇은 코바늘로 사용하면 뜨기가 어려운것 같이 적당한 크기에 실에 적당한 크기에 바늘을 사용하고 실크기와 스타일에 따라 무슨 사이즈에 코바늘을 사용할지가 만들어지는 물건에 모양과 사이즈에 아주 중요한 요점들 입니다. 그래서 프로젝트를 시작하기 전에는 내가 어떤사이즈에 실과/스타일 그리고 어떤 사이즈에 코바늘을 사용할지 먼저 알아내면 참 좋습니다. 처음 코바늘 뜨개질을 시작하면 사실 어려운 관문들도 있다는걸 아셔야 합니다. 어떤걸 하든 사실 처음 해보는 것들은 잘 하기가 쉽지 안습니다. 코바늘 뜨개질도 사실 많은 인내심과 노력이 필요합니다. 아무리 처음부터 잘 할지라도 인내심과 노력이 없다면 좋은 성과를 얻을수 없습니다. 처음 실을 뜬다는 자체도 사실 쉬운게 아니기 때문에 많은 연습과 노력, 그리고 인내심만 있다면 아무리 만드는걸 잘 못한다 할지라도 포기하지만 안으면 많은 것을 만들수 있습니다. 그리고 코바늘 뜨개질을 한번 시작하면 많은 사람들이 이 매력에 빠진다는게 코바늘 뜨개질 취미에 큰 핵심인것 같습니다.

amigurumi

I’m still not creative enough to think of my own crochet art work, but I’m still able to make pretty much anything by learning how to make certain things through the help of my greatest online tool, YouTube. I’ve worked on many different projects, many of which are in the category of amigurumi. Amigurumi is the 3D version of figures or things you are trying to create by crocheting. Literally amigurumi means to knit or crochet a stuffed doll in Japanese. Amigurumi are great for making stuffed animals, stuffed toys, or even stuffed things that can be used for house decoration. I mostly made amigurumi for house decorations like pumpkins for the fall season decorations and the whole set of the figures for the Nativity for winter/Christmas time. Even though amigurumi can take longer time than 2D projects (which all depends on how big and complicated amigurumi you are trying to make), I enjoyed making them more compared to any other 2D projects I worked on.

전 사실 제가 상상해서 코바늘 뜨기로 몰 만들어 본적은 아직 없습니다. 나중에 좀더 열심히 만들다보면 언젠가는 제가 혼자 상상해서 도본없이 만들수 있는날을 꿈꾸며 지금으로선 유투부 같은 온라인 사이트를 통해서 저에 실력을 늘리고 있습니다. 우선 제가 좀더 잘 만들고 또한 재미를 느낀 코바늘 프로젝트는 대부분 아미구루미 입니다. 아미구루미는 조금 설명하자면 3D 버전에 코바늘 뜨기에 안에 솜같은게 들어가는 인형을 만드는걸 아미구루미 라고 합니다. 아미구루미 도 아주 많은 방법과 만들수 있는것들이 아주 많이 있습니다. 제가 만든것 중에서 송꼽는 것들은 가을에 데코하기 좋은 호박 가족들과, 겨울에 데코하기 좋은 예수님 탄생 세트 그리고 크리스마스 트리들 입니다. 그것왜에도 많은 것들은 만들었는데요 전 조금 특이하게 2D 프로젝트보다 3D 프로젝트를 만드는게 더 재미가 있더라고요. 물론 몰 만드는거에 따라 시간이 얼마나 걸리는지도 다 다릅니다. 그래도 전 아무리 오래 걸린다 한들 3D 아미구루미 프로젝트를 할때가 제일 행복하고 좋습니다.

art has no age barrier

To me there is no difference between art and crafts.  Without art, there are no crafts and vice versa.  I also personally believe that there are barriers to any art form and it is time to stop looking down on certain art through the lens of what might or might not be suitable only for a certain generation of people.  For example, many believe that knitting or crocheting is mostly for old ladies.  I disagree.  In fact, crochet is an art.  And, to me, it is one of the greatest art styles I have encountered and I hope that more people will learn to enjoy crocheting. 

많은 사람들이 뜨개질은 좀 할머니 세대가 아니냐 하는 분들이 많으신데 사실 뜨개질에는 나이가 별로 중요하지 않습니다. 무슨 미술을 하든 간에 나이를 따지는건 제 생각에는 아니라고 봅니다. 모든 미술은 어린아이든 나이가 있으신 분들이는 나이 장벽이 없다고 전 생각합니다. 그리고 또한 많은 사람들이 코바늘 뜨개질은 만들기지 미술이 아니라는 사람들이 많은데 그것도 전 아니라고 봅니다. 미술이 없으면 만들기도 없고. 만들기가 없으면 미술도 없다고 전 생각합니다. 전 코바늘 뜨개질이 좀더 많은 사람들에게 알려져서 많은 분들이 이 재미를 느끼고 코바늘 뜨개질에 흥미를 가지셨으면 좋겠습니다.

getting hooked on crocheting

There can be multiple reasons why you would like to start something like crocheting. You can start as a hobby you would enjoy doing, to make a living out of it, to start in order to challenge yourself, or to just spend your time on something like crocheting. Art truly comes in many different forms and ways and crochet is just one of the many forms of art out there. Whether you already knew about crochet before you read this blog or not, I hope that you now have a good (or even better) idea on what crochet is and how there are no limits to the art world. 코바늘 뜨기를 하는 이유에는 많은 이유들이 있습니다. 어떤 사람은 취미로 시작할수도 있고, 어떤사람은 돈을 벌기 위해서 시작할수도 있고, 어떤사람은 새로운 도전을 하기위해서 시작할수도 있고, 또 어떤 사람은 그냥 자기에 시간을 활용하기 위해서 시작할수도 있습니다. 미술에는 정말 각지 다른 많은 방법과 미술들이 있습니다. 그와중에 코바늘 뜨기는 그냥 미술에 한가지라고 볼수 있지요. 이 블로그를 통해서 조금이라도 코바늘 뜨기를 배웠으면 하고 또한 코바늘 뜨개질에 매력에 푹 빠졌을 기를 바라면 이만 마치겠습니다. 감사합니다!
